fall at madewell

Somehow, Madewell always gets it right. Their color palettes, their silhouettes, their styling--everyting is spot-on all the time. Flipping through some of their fall looks, I was so inspired by so many looks.

This rust colored shirtdress is the perfect combination of color and proportion for autumn. Paired with simple platform ankle boots, all I would need is a cozy sweater for a day of early Christmas shopping! In the second look, a grey pullover atop this pretty printed mini adds just enough warmth for a sunny morning out for coffee.
Army green is another trademark color for fall. I love the cool-toned blue tights, bag, and shoes that pull this monochromatic look together. As for the bohemian look, the athletic cardigan adds just enough masculinity to balance the dramatic flowy skirt.

I'm sure you know by now that I can't get enough of ankle boots...any of these would be so fun to mix and match with Madewell's unique looks!

Mix and match seems to be the motto for the season--especially today!

blustery days

DKNY blouse, Madewell jeans, Target oxfords, H&M scarf (borrowed!), earrings c/o Jewelmint

All I want to do today is drive up to Fairhaven, about two hours north of Seattle, eat at Katie's Cupcakes, and stroll through the shops and galleries for a lazy afternoon. Instead, I have twenty minutes to get this post up before running off to work. Hopefully the wind won't crazify my hair tttoooo much.

How beeyoootifull are these stud earrings? They add such an elegant touch to any outfit. My friends have already been asking to borrow them, which makes them a success in my book. The classy gold fans with a pearly ivory inset have such a vintage feel. Be sure to browse the selection at Jewelmint--so much to choose from!

Amy Kathryn handbag GIVEAWAY going on for another week! This bag mmmaayy become your new best friend. On that note, enjoy Friday and have a great weekend!

seasonal variety

Many of you share my love for Shopbop, one of the best designer-brand online retailers out there. I love getting emails from them each morning--once a week or so they send a round-up of new pieces by my favorite designers. I want everything in this recent edition!

Red, for me, will always be the color for fall--Alexander Wang's Marion sling bag and Rag & Bone's Newbury boots are the perfect compliments to a cozy knit on a cool fall day.

Fall also has the perfect balance between warm and cool tones -- the variety is so refreshing. I love this knit by A.L.C. and this comfy long-sleeve maxi dress by Splendid!

Combine both tones for a look that is rich in the colors of fall, with tons of visual interest in textures and detail.

Topshop sweater, J Brand corduroys, The Row laptop bag (ssooo ffaabbb), Missoni scarf, Butter London's Queen Vic, Forever 21 ring, Rachel Comey boots (peerrffecctionnn!)

Rachel Comey is one of my favorite designers, as you can probably guess by the "Talented Rachels" series I posted awhile ago. These fall boots are perfection!

spotted in chicago

Free People thermal, Levis jeans, Target oxfords, F21 and vintage jewelry, vintage Coach bag, "Humanity" bracelet c/o Jewelmint

Here are just a few of the photos I snapped on our spontaneous girls' trip to Chicago last weekend! This was a simple city-walking outfit for a sunny, breezy day. I was so happy to be able to wear my newest jewelry piece; a bracelet by Jewelmint. I love the simplicity, and the lovely message on the back that reads "To love, to live, and to give and give." Such a great phrase to read daily! Can't wait to show you more pieces by Jewelmint in upcoming posts.

A while ago, I won a prize package from Birchbox, and was lucky enough to score a pair of Cynthia Rowley-designed nail strips! I applied these just in time for a seventies banquet I attended a couple weeks ago, and wore them for about a week afterwards. I loooove the pretty pattern, and was really happy with how easily they went on. I have a few other colors of nail strips to try--can't wait to get the technique down!

Still have lots to share about my weekend in Chicago--stay tuned, and  happy Frrriiiidddaaayyy!

P.S. Congrats to Emily Malone on her lovely little baby boy :)

summer memories

Vintage skirt worn as dress, Target hat, Ray-Ban wayfarers, well-loved TOMS shoes

This was a very pretty, very warm day back home in Washington! I had to got to go berry picking with my family (took home twenty-six pounds!) and after half an hour I was the one sitting in the shade eating my family's hard work (ha, sorry guys).

Funny to remember this sunny, hot weather. The past few days here have been grey with a definite chill! The weather in Chicago was lovely though--we couldn't have asked for a more perfect time. I can't wait to share some about it on Friday! We got to check out the Chicago Public Library over the weekend and since being back have already visited two Minneapolis libraries (one of which I'm writing this from!). I love libraries.

Elyse was busy picking blueberries so my little brother took my outfit photos! I think he did really well for his first time :)

fall furs

Most important rule to wearing fur: keep it faux!

Michael Kors, Topshop, Delia's

Not ready to flaunt a full-fledged faux-fur? Take it in small doses, like the trim around the hood of the lovely orange coat by Delia's.

I've always been a little afraid to wear faux fur (have this fear of activists throwing things at me while screaming 'animal killer' without giving me time to explain that it's fake), but nevertheless, I love the look. It works perfectly in any texture-driven outfit.

Anya Hindmarch bag, Nine West sandals, Topshop scarf, Miss Selfridge ring

Take a chance by pairing it with another fun look for fall--instead of storing your chunky platform sandals, wear them long into autumn over socks or tights. Layering different textures and colors is what fall fashion is alllllllll about.

julia mary + zipped

Free People tank and pants, vintage jewelry, bag c/o Amy Kathryn

It has only been a few weeks since I moved to Minneapolis, and I feel so blessed by all the exciting opportunities I've had! I've been working with some amazing companies, met a fellow blogger, and just recently had the opportunity to shoot with a Twin Cities photographer (and friend of mine) Julia Prichard! She even let me step behind the lens afterwards to snap some photos of her classy, casual look.

We met up at beautiful French Park where the lighting was lovely and the weeds were as artistic as weeds can be. I know it's autumn, but I cannot get enough of this floaty white tank top--or this bag! Amy Kathryn is a line of earth-friendly handbags that are so beautifully eye-catching. The Camellia Gold messenger bag is definitely a fave!

On that note--I'm headed to Chicago for the weekend!! (Mom, call me when you read this...) See you on Monday!

st. paul streets

Street style is one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to getting dressed. When I moved to Minneapolis about a month ago, I was so excited to see how midwest style differed from Seattle. Little did I know I would discover an awesome street style blog based right here in the Twin Cities: The Minneapoline!

These looks were described as "muted takes on fall's blue." I love how different these looks are from each other. The first look is so lady-like (check out that gorgeous Chanel!) while the second has such vintage, bohemian pieces.

This maxi skirt is undeniably striking. I love how she paired it with a simple top and accessories! As for those printed shorts...such a fun summer look. I just might need to search out this gal and see how she could layer them up for cooler weather--they are just that awesome.

Definitely add The Minneapoline to your bookmarks to browse whenever you need some outfit inspiration. I only found it a week ago and I'm already hooked!

primarily

Minneapolis may have just settled into autumn weather, but the runways of New York Fashion Week were alive with spring fever just at the beginning of September. From the moment I laid eyes on Trussardi's collection, I was in loooooooooove!

I have never been a big fan of primary colors, but in classic silhouettes like these, spring may be the perfect time to go for something unexpected. I'm in a new city after all...why not change up my look?

Martin Grant dress, Marc by Marc Jacobs ankle boots, Pietro Alessandro handbag, Moschino jacket, Isabel Marant earrings, ASOS arrow ring, Forever 21 cocktail ring

I'm not convinced I could pull off an outfit like that--I totally had Emily in mind when I styled this. She always goes for thematic, trendy looks and knocks them out of the park. This is definitely bolder than normal for me!

Are you a fan of the primaries or do you tend to go for tamer looks?

grand avenue

Delia's sweater, Forever 21 cords, Target oxfords

Told you guys I love colored corduroys.

As I put this outfit together, it was fun to see that I hadn't worn any of these pieces on the blog before! It's always nice to remix and rewear favorite items, but these three new additions to my wardrobe are so refreshing.

It is totally starting to feel like fall here in Minnesota. Just look at all of the gorgeous leaves on the ground! I got to spend this day with my sister prancing through shops and drinking free pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks (gah how I miss you, Seattle) and spending the evening relaxing at her apartment.

Living near my sister again has been the best. We're having a bit of an "Autumn Harvest" themed party at her place next weekend that I can't wait for! I love celebrating fall.

fremont sunday market

Jacket c/o APART Style, Urban Outfitters top, SOLD Design Lab jeans, Cut 'n Paste Lia tote

One of the last activities I got to do in Seattle before moving east was meet with lovely  Kelsey of Everything's Coming Up Roses for a morning at the Fremont Sunday Market.  Just a few minutes from downtown Seattle, we encountered vintage designer shoes, made a camel friend, and spent some precious minutes down on the dock enjoying the breeze and beautiful view.

This sweater is one of my faves...since moving to Minneapolis, I've already bought two more red and white striped tops. I suppose I should change up the color at some point but I just love red. It's not usually my color, but I can wear it in small doses. Okay, now I'm rambling.

In Friday's post you'll be able to see a glimpse of Minneapolis in autumn! The colors are incredible. Now if only we could get rid of the 85 degree heat...
